About the Annual Report
It has been one year since Patricia was appointed as Special Advocate for Survivors of Institutional Abuse.
Between March 2024 and March 2025, Patricia met with and spoken to over 1200 Survivors and Affected Persons.
We are grateful for all of the people who have contacted the office to share their experience and insight and to raise important issues with the Special Advocate. These issues have been collated as part of the Annual Report for 2024.
The Annual Report includes:
- a breakdown of the activities of the office in its first year, since the establishment of the Special Advocate office in March 2024
- a detailed summary of the engagements undertaken by the Special Advocate with Survivors and Affected Persons, their families, and other stakeholders
- an overview of the key issues raised by Survivors and Affected Persons with the Special Advocate office
- the recommendations the Special Advocate has developed in response

Publication of the Annual Report
The Annual Report has been submitted to the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality. Once the Annual Report has been published, this will be shared with the Special Advocate’s mailing list and uploaded to the Special Advocate website.
