The Special Advocate recognises that there is no one- size-fits-all support for Survivors and Affected Persons. This page contains information and contact details for a range of supports and services that may help.

The Origins Tracing Service is for people who spent any time in their childhood in an Irish Industrial School and are interested in tracing information about their parents, siblings or other relatives. The service is available to people in Ireland and abroad. -
The Christine Buckley Centre
The Christine Buckley Centre provides unwavering support and opportunities for learning to Survivors of institutional abuse and their families. -
Birth Information and Tracing
The Birth Information and Tracing Act 2022 (BITA) was signed into law on 30 June 2022. This landmark legislation provides a full and clear right of access to birth certificates, birth and early life information for all persons who were adopted, boarded out, the subject of an illegal birth registration or who otherwise have questions in relation to their origins. -
Adoption Authority of Ireland
The Adoption Authority of Ireland is an independent body established on 1 November 2010 under the Adoption Act 2010. The purpose of the Adoption Act 2010 is to improve standards in both domestic and intercountry adoption. Legal adoption was first introduced in Ireland under the 1952 Adoption Act. -
Sage
Sage works to ensure that people have easy access to information, support, independent advocacy and safeguarding services. It is currently expanding its services with the support of the Dept of Education to meet the support and advocacy needs of survivors of institutional abuse. -
National Counselling Service (NCS)
The National Counselling Service (NCS) provides free counselling to people age 18 or older who experienced childhood abuse or neglect, are former residents of a mother and baby home, or have a medical card. -
